CHARACTER QUEBEC PINE

The sustainable timber used in Indigo’s Plank and Plank Beam ranges originates from some of the tallest trees in North America.

Quebec Pine

HANDCRAFTED PINE FURNITURE

The Quebec Pine is a slow growing species, sourced from the vast lands of Canada. The cool climate ensures the wood grows slow and true, resulting in an even, straight grain and unique patina. The branches of these imposing trees can be seen as knots on the surface of the wood. This wood used to create Indigo’s handcrafted Pine furniture does not twist or warp compared to commonly used European Pine and is widely used to make the patterns for metal casting due to it’s stable structure.

Part of a rich heritage in building and cabinet making; and prized by ship builders for it’s majestic trunks, traditionally used to make ship masts. Sourced through suppliers that provide reassurance of legal and progressively sustainable supplies of wood, from well managed forests.

BROUGHT TO LIFE

The warm honeyed tones of handcrafted Pine furniture are brought to life with a hand applied natural finish.

Ground walnut shells, Oak dust and Beeswax nourish, protect and bring the inherent character to the fore. An artisanal process which totals five hours of hand brushing, and polishing with a lint free cloth.

Each piece is handmade to order for you. Upon delivery your furniture will be given a final wax and buff by the Indigo finishing team.

GRAIN

Every ring on a piece of timber depicts a year in the life of the tree, these can be seen as the grain on the surface of the wood. Indigo Furniture sports a delightful surface interest, the inherent grain of natural timber is brought to the fore with hand finishing and nourishing Beeswax.

KNOTS

The branches of the imposing Canadian Pine can be seen as knots on the surface of the wood, bringing character and surface interest that only solid wood can provide.

GRIPPER MARKS

The working parts of the restored wartime machinery used to create Indigo Furniture leave unique marks. As the timber passes through our Wadkin Saw, the gripper teeth which pull the wood in the saw blade leave a stippled line. Indigo never fully sand out the story of craftsmanship making each piece truly unique.

NATURAL NUANCES

We pride ourselves on celebrating the nuances of the timber we use to create our handcrafted Pine furniture and provide samples as a guide – your final piece could be darker or lighter. Wood is a natural product and the final finish on each piece will vary; this is dependent on factors such as the grain of the wood and how readily the wax applied during the finishing process is absorbed.

A complimentary care pack will help you to look after and cherish each piece of Indigo Furniture you invest in.
