The history behind your Indigo Reclaimed Beam Bed
It all started with the Crossley Brothers who moved to premises in Pottery Lane, Openshaw, East Manchester in 1882 under the now famous motoring name of Crossley Motors.
There they built many cars as well engines and ancillaries for the revered Bugatti name, the famous factory further imbedded its name in British manufacturing history by producing armoured cars, aircraft, stationary engines and ship engines to be used on the front line during the First World War.
Following the war the factory was taken over by Rolls-Royce and was in operation until the 27th February 2009 when sadly the famous old Crossley Works in Pottery Lane was shut down leaving only a handful of staff to move what remained of the business to the Rolls-Royce plant in Dunfermline, Scotland.
The buildings were demolished and we were lucky enough to get the opportunity to purchase the old structural timbers that had supported the famous factory for so many years, mainly pitch pine roof rafters, perlins and joists. We transported the huge recycled timbers to our wood yard in Matlock, Derbyshire ready to be given a “new lease of life”. We’re very proud to have preserved and be part of the history of the old beams by crafting furniture in our unique style that will last for generations to come and provide our customers with the opportunity to own a piece of history as well as a stunning piece of unique furniture.
