Our Leather

Find out a little bit more about our unique leather hides:

Remember…leather is natural

Real leather is a natural product it breathes, it is warm and it has individual characteristics that add to its natural charm and beauty. As a natural product, it will often display traces of its past such as brand marks, healed scars, and areas of differing fibre density and hair pore structure. These hallmarks in no way detract from its natural beauty and are in fact the signs that discerning owners should look for when buying leather. With the passage of time and through normal use your leather furniture will develop a rich patina that will further enhance its natural beauty.
Because each hide is unique in itself, patterns and colour samples should always be regarded as no more than a guide.

We ensure the very best quality leather hides

So how do you know the difference between the very best leathers as opposed to those used on inferior leather furniture? When choosing where to buy your leather furniture it can be very difficult as an image on a web site can often make all leather look the same. However dramatically cheaper alternatives are usually cheaper for a good reason.
At Indigo we only choose the very best top grain aniline hides to use on our furniture.
The quality of leather has a lot to do with where it has come from; as a general rule the bigger the animal and the better the conditions in which it has been reared the higher the quality of the leather. The leather used by Indigo comes from the very best breeders, particularly those in Northern Italy and South America.

Living with your leather furniture

Today, due to modern tanning processes and the requirements of consumers, leather is produced with a more glove-like feel and will maintain this during the lifetime of the furniture. It is therefore, quite different from the much firmer leathers used on furniture in days gone by. The combination of these factors means that during the first few weeks of use, wrinkles and creases will form naturally in the leather. This is quite normal and should not cause concern.
