Request a sample of plank wood

The timber used for the Plank Range is Quebec Yellow-wood. This is classed as a soft wood however due to the cooler climate in Canada; the timber grows slower producing a closer grain, and therefore a denser and harder wood. The “antique pine” furniture commonly seen on the high street tends to be made from the cheaper, and softer, European or Scandinavian pines.

The Yellow-wood is an ideal material for making quality furniture as it is less liable to shrink, lose knots, warp or twist allowing us to create beautiful furniture, which will last for years to come.

The process

Our timber is machined locally using large band and circular saws; it is this traditional process that leaves lines in the timber, we maintain these marks rather than sand them completely out.

We feel that by not hiding the manufacture process our Plank Range stands apart from other styles of furniture.

The environment

The timber used for the Plank Range is sourced from suppliers that can provide the reassurance of legal and progressively sustainable supplies of wood. When the timber is purchased the supplier has to provide us with legal documents to show that it has been sourced from well managed forests. Our supplier in the UK is a member of the Timber Trade Federation which follows a code of conduct to ensure a responsible purchasing policy.

Care instructions

We supply all customers with a Plank Wood Care Box*
This care kit comprises of the following items: -
1 x Plank Wax (stripped pine)
1 x Clear wax (light)
1 x ‘Plank Groove-brush’ – Please note this is for brushing out crumbs / dirt from the plank grooves, it is NOT to be used for waxing

In order to get the best from your furniture please read the following care instructions.

The purpose of the clear wax is for cleaning, the advantage of using a beeswax rather than standard spray polish is that it cleans and nourishes the timber helping to build up the stain resistance of the timber. The wax should be applied using the lint free cloth provided, apply generously in a circular motion until the wax is evenly spread over the surface. Continued use over time will allow the grain of the timber and the colouration to gracefully mellow and age beautifully.

We provide the coloured Plank wax for easy repair of scratches or knocks. Using the lint free cloth provided scoop a generous sized lump of wax from the tin and rub into the wood rubbing in a circular motion. Once dried re-apply a second coat, then buff off any excess wax and rub to a soft gloss. We would also advise that you treat furniture once a year with the coloured wax; this helps to maintain and enhance the depth of colour on the furniture.

The ‘Plank Groove-brush’ is to remove any dirt from the grooves in the Plank furniture.
