DESIGN FOCUS: THE MERCHANT’S CHEST

SIGNATURE PLANK STYLE

The Merchant’s Chest was launched in 2014 and quickly became an integral part of the Indigo range, a classic piece to customers old and new. Crafted in Indigo’s signature Plank style from slow growing Canadian Pine the traditional aesthetic of this piece hides an innovative design feature.

Tasked with the creation of a robust storage piece for homes with small doorways, tight hallways and awkward spaces.

Indigo’s design maverick Miles Gregory looked to the past to create this inspired piece which is crafted to dismantle into two halves; yet when assembled the join is craftily hidden. The side is machined from one plank of wood so that the natural knots and texture disguise the join allowing you to enjoy a statement chest of drawers.

BESPOKE, HAND CAST METALWORK

A versatile piece at home in your living, sleeping and dining space.

Sporting four single drawers to the top of the piece and a set of six double drawers to the base, crafted with Dovetail joints and finished with a steadfast plinth and bespoke, hand cast metalwork.

SHOP

THE LIGHT BULB MOMENT…

“Customers requested an imposing chest of drawers – somewhere to store bulky Winter jumpers and seasonal bedding.

A piece as large as this could create issues with delivery and access so the light bulb moment was cutting it clean in half. The skill of our workshop ensure that the divide is hardly visible and the delivery teams bring the piece in two halves and install in your room of choice.

This piece has been a big hit with customers living in small cottages, mews and those with awkward staircases.”
