The sustainable timber used in Indigo’s Plank and Plank Beam ranges originates from some of the tallest trees in North America. A 6 step process begins with shaping of the legs and frame. First the metal is precision laser cut and bent into shape, the frame and legs are then welded together. The next phase involves sandblasting and a deep clean to ensure the finish will adhere to the surface of the metal. Finally an architectural powder coating is applied to the frame.
This architectural powder coating is an incredibly robust finish that will not yield to the rough and tumble of a busy home. The powder coating is applied to the frame using an electrostatic charge, this is then cured in temperatures in excess of 200°C. This finish is free of solvents and thus emits negligible volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere.
Cold rolled steel is processed at room temperature and typically has a finer surface and tighter tolerances than hot rolled steel, a reduced flexibility ensures a superior strength and finish ideal for furniture applications.
